Selective Edge is operated by Yathushan Muraleetharan (ABN 38 917 736 686), trading as Selective Edge ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Contact for privacy matters: hello@selective-edge.com.au
We collect the following categories of personal information:
We do not sell personal information. We do not use student data to train third-party AI models. Writing is marked by human tutors, not AI.
Selective Edge is designed for children in Years 4–6 (typically ages 9–12). Children do not create their own accounts. A parent or legal guardian creates the account and adds student profiles for their children. By creating an account you confirm you are the parent or legal guardian of any student profile you add, and you consent to the collection and use of the information about your child described in this Policy, including the child's full name, which we use solely to identify their profile and personalise their experience inside the platform.
We do not market directly to children, do not show third-party advertising, and do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without parental consent. Student names are not displayed publicly anywhere, are never used in marketing materials, and appear only inside the parent's account and to the tutor marking the child's writing. If you believe a child has provided us information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.
We share personal information only with the service providers we need to operate the platform, and only to the extent required. Current sub-processors:
Where a student belongs to a tutoring centre, that centre's staff can see the work their student does on the platform, including the exam integrity information described in section 2. That information is shown to centre staff only. It is not shown to parents by default, it is never used to mark, fail or void a student's work, and it is never included in the aggregated data we use to calibrate question difficulty.
We do not disclose personal information to law enforcement agencies except where required by law (e.g. valid warrant or court order).
Personal information is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with industry-standard access controls, encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and regular backups. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. Service-role keys are isolated from the public web application.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Our service providers may store data in countries outside Australia (commonly the United States or Singapore). By using Selective Edge you consent to your personal information being transferred and stored outside Australia for these purposes. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
We keep your account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle support, disputes and legal obligations. You can request deletion of your account and associated student profiles at any time by emailing us. We will action the request within 30 days, subject to records we are legally required to retain.
Exam integrity records (section 2) are deleted automatically 12 months after the exam they relate to. The summary a tutor sees, meaning total time away and the number of times the page lost focus, is kept with the exam result. The detailed event-by-event record is not.
You have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@selective-edge.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
We set our own cookies only as required to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences, such as whether you chose dark mode. Those are necessary for the site to work and are not used to profile anyone.
We also use two measurement tools, and neither runs until you have said yes to it:
We use neither for advertising, we do not sell or share what they collect, and we do not send them a name, an email address or anything else that identifies a child. Until you choose, both stay off, which means an undecided visitor is never measured. Declining costs you nothing: every part of the site works the same either way.
Your current choice, and the control to change it, is here. It takes effect immediately and needs no reload.
You have not chosen yet, so analytics is off.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy issue, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. We ask that you contact us first so we have a chance to resolve the matter directly.
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified to account holders by email and the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
